Here is a selection of our current research projects
Project 1: Impact of aging on speech understanding in cochlear implant users
Older adult cochlear implant (CI) users often show worse speech understanding than younger CI users. This project aims to understand better the auditory, cognitive, and linguistic processes that contribute to speech understanding difficulties of older CI users.
Project 2: Processing foreign-accented speech in listeners with normal and impaired hearing
Foreign-accented speech is a common occurrence in everyday life. Foreign-accented speech sounds can exhibit noticeable differences from native norms, which may negatively impact speech understanding. This project aims to understand better how the brain processes foreign-accented speech in normal-hearing listeners and cochlear implant users.
Project 3: Emotion perception in cochlear implant users
Accurate emotion perception is crucial for social communication. Human speech conveys information about the speaker’s emotional status, but such information is degraded when listening through a cochlear implant (CI). This project aims to understand better how the brain processes emotions in CI users and why some CI users struggle with emotion perception.
